IPek is a queer-feminist conceptual artist, theorist, writer, designer and performer. IPek was born in Istanbul, raised in Budapest and lives between Budapest and Basel. She is a Master of Art Theory and Philology (2016 ELTE, HU) and a Master of Fine Arts (2019 ZHdK, CH).
In all her fields of activity she focuses on raising awareness of gender roles, migration, social injustices and environmental issues. IPek’s artistic work has a wide range of forms that expands from textile art to murals. As a theorist, she communicates her thoughts through lectures and performances, where she reads her own texts about art theory, gender issues and other social phenomena. As a performer, IPek refreshes, reframes and rewrites folk songs. She herself sings these songs in diverse variations and contexts on stage. IPek publishes her texts and drawings in fanzines and performs in theatres, squats, and museums as well.
IPek’s pronouns are no pronoun/she, and her self-description is a cultural activist.
